The central focal point of the city is the Corniche, a promenade along the seafront lined with palm trees and stretching for 8km around Doha bay. It provides a panoramic and uniterrupted view of Doha's numerous modern skyscrapers and famous "helter skelter" mosque, set against a foreground of traditional fishing vessels known as dhows.
Doha has many modern hotels, which is where a lot of the nightlife can be found. The hotels host gourmet restaurants, often featuring visiting international chefs, bars and nightclubs. Food ranging from local specialities such as shwarma to international cuisine of all descriptions can also be found in the many restaurants around the city. Most of the larger hotels have health clubs, swimming pools, private beaches and watersports facilities, including paragliding, waterskiing, wakeboarding and jetskiing.

Golf is played year round at the Doha Golf Club, there are many sailing schools including the internationally renowned Regatta Sailing Academy, racquet sports can be played at the Al-Khalifa Squash & Tennis Centre, and motorsports (including international rounds of the MotoGP and World Superbike championships) are held at the Losail International Racetrack.
